On Monday, 30th September 2024, the Uganda golf union officially flagged off four of its best golfers.

Captain Joseph Cwinya-ai (Tooro Club), Joseph Kasozi (Uganda golf club), Joseph Reagan Akena (Lugazi Hills and Country Club) and Ibrahim Ssemakula (Lugazi Hills and Country Club) are the players on the team.

“We have trained well and have the confidence that we shall do well in Rwanda. The team has experienced and talented players ready for the job with winning in the DNA” Cwinya-ai remarked.

The team will be coached by Uganda’s female professional golfer Sergent Flavia Namakula.

Namakula is optimistic about good performances in the tournament.

“The players have been physically and mentally trained ready for the job at hand. Of late, we have been polishing the end game at the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa course, the same course as the one in Kigali” Namakula remarked.

Paul Habyarimana will travel as team manager as he sings praise to the partners.

“We applaud our strategic partners and sponsors, the National Council of Sports, the institution of government under the Ministry of Education and Sports charged with the mandate to develop, promote and control sports activities in Uganda. The media fraternity has been a great ally in this journey as well.” Habyarimana stated.

After this championship that Uganda has won once before, preparations will switch to the All-Africa Golf Team Championships to be held in Harare, Zimbabwe.

Africa is divided into five golfing divisions with each region mandated to develop the sport.

Africa Golf Confederation chief referee Michael Mahachi from Zimbabwe will referee at this event.

The event is also partly sponsored by the R&A.
