Uganda cognizant of Cote d’Ivoire threat ahead of 2024 Africa 7s Round Two

Uganda drew Tunisia, Cote d’Ivoire, and Burkina Faso in Pool A of the second round of the 2024 Rugby Africa Men’s 7s in Mauritius. This is identical to the first round’s pool where the Rugby Cranes 7s were unbeaten in all the matches they played.

The second round will kick off on Saturday, July 6 with the pool phase and will conclude on Sunday, July 7 with the knockouts.

Uganda’s fixtures in the pool phase (all times EAT):

  • 9.50 a.m.: Uganda vs Tunisia
  • 12.34 p.m.: Uganda vs Cote d’Ivoire
  • 3.18 p.m.: Uganda vs Burkina Faso

Uganda won the Cup Final, beating Madagascar by 31-12 points at the Labourdonnais Sports Club last Sunday. They expect to maintain their winning streak in the tournament but are cognizant of Cote d’Ivoire who gave them a run for their money in the previous meetings.

Uganda takes on Cote d’Ivoire on Day One in the first round

Matches against Cote d’Ivoire ended 22-12 in the pool phase and 15-10 in the Cup Quarterfinals during the first round. This was Uganda’s smallest winning margin on the weekend.

Finishing among the top two teams not already part of the SVNS World Series (South Africa and defending champions Kenya) will book Uganda a ticket to the 2025 World Rugby 7s Challenger Series.
