Tyre safety survey report launched with a call to incorporate it in the Gov’t Policy

 Transports and road safety stakeholders convened on Thursday 2nd July2026 at Bwaise Park Terminal to launch the new Tyre Safety Survey Report 2025.

The report launch attracted stakeholders including Uganda Taxi Operators Federation -UTOF, The Safe Transport and Survivors Support Uganda- STASSU, Bwaise Terminal Leadership, Tyre Express Company, Uganda Police, Legacy Road Safety Initiative, among others.

Apollo Kashanku, Deputy Commissioner of Transport and Roads, urged drivers to be aware of the condition and details of the tires they install on their vehicles to avoid accidents

Kanshanku said drivers should know the condition of the tyres before starting a vehicle 8n the road, because it saves accidents as if a driver is aware of the tire before starting it is easier for him to change it and put another one in good condition and avoid accidents.

Kashanku was speaking at the Kawempe division based terminal where STASSU read out a report on the research they have conducted on tires in an effort to reduce road accidents caused by driving with dead tyres.

Sam Bambaza The Executive Director of STASSU said they decided to meet taxi drivers in the park to teach them how to avoid road accidents by buying healthy tyres because according to their reports they found that most accidents are caused by flat tyres and related tyre conditions.

Meanwhile, Joel Odama from Tyre Express  educated taxi drivers on tyre quality and how to identify the right tyres for their vehicles.

Bwaise Terminal park chairman Muzamir Ndibo and his deputy Ronald Kayanja thanked STASSU for bringing the workshop to their park as it will help drivers to know the correct tires to use on their vehicles to avoid accidents.

Kayanja commended the founders of the park and said the construction of the park started in 1987 with the aim of improving traffic in Kampala especially in Kawempe division to eliminate traffic congestion caused by taxis parking on the sidewalks but after the establishment of Bwaise Terminal in the parking lot.

Chairman Ndibo called for enhanced partnership with enforcement officers to ensure safeguard in Safety vehicle users. 

Aloysius Ddamulira, head of security at the UTOF, thanked the security forces for praising the security personnel sent by UTOF to the park because they help KCCA collect taxes from taxis and the government can build roads for them to drive.

At the ceremony, the park ethics officers were awarded certificates and they also pledged to work tirelessly
