Top political leaders hails former Tanzanian President Benjamin Mkapa, tasks youth to complete his projects at the 4th Memorial Lecture.
Cavendish University Uganda, University of Dodoma in Tanzanian and partners organized the 4th Benjamin Mkapa Memorial Lecture on 20th November 2025, at Sheraton Hotel in Kampala.
The memorial lecture focused on East African governance, exploring lessons from the legacy of Benjamin Mkapa on topics like political pluralism, democracy, and social integration.
The lecture according to the Executive Director of Cavendish University, David Mutabananura is a continuation of a series that began in 2023 to honor the former Chancellor of the university and President of Tanzania. He said that the
The theme of the lecture was: “Political Pluralism, Democracy & Social Integration in East Africa: The Legacy of H.E. Benjamin Mkapa.
The lecture attracted regional thought leaders, diplomats, historical Political leaders and policymakers to discuss East African governance while commending former presidents Benjamin Mkapa’s contributions toward state formation and building across Africa.
Executive director Cavendish University David Mutabanura while applauding the partners Including the Mkapa Foundation and the family of Mkapa who attended virtually.
He disclosed that as proposed by the Mkapa family, the 5th lecture will be planned to take place in Tanzania.
“2025 we shall hold the lecture in Tanzania as proposed by the Mkapa family, we have partners in Tanzania; University of Dodoma , the joint Organisation of the lecture reminds us that there is a lot that cuts across the 2 countries” he said.

Former Prime Minister of Uganda, and Special Presidential Envoy in Great Lakes Region challenged Cavendish students to champion what Mkapa had started, while bridging community united in purpose.
“Students and young people professionals, you are the generation that will complete projects that Benjamin started. Build bridges across society United in purpose and responsible in leadership” he said
He said that he honours Mkapa based on his mission to strength democracy, Nurture pluralism, while applauding CUU for sustaining the lecture.
James Ikwiya Magodo who represented the Deputy Hon. Former Prime Minister Hon Amama Mbabazi said that the lecture reminds us reflect outstanding activities of the late Mkapa that need to integrate in our.
