Stephen Rwangyezi, the founder of the Ndere Cultural Centre, is on the verge of losing his iconic cultural hub, due to an unpaid loan.

The centre, located in Kisaasi, a suburb of Kampala, has been listed for auction and could be sold as early as next month.

The Ndere Cultural Centre, has long been a hub for cultural preservation and education in Uganda.

Its potential sale marks a blow not only to Rwangyezi but also to the cultural community that has benefited from its activities for over two decades.

According to a recent newspaper advertisement by Quickway Auctioneers & Court Bailiffs, the Ndere Cultural Centre is one of three properties owned by Mr. Rwangyezi that have been listed for public auction.

The centre occupies 3.645 hectares of land, located on LRV 2727 on 2820 Kyadondo Block 216 Plot 2872 in Kigoowa. However, the advertisement does not specify the amount owed by Mr. Rwangyezi or the identity of the creditor.

The notice indicates that the sale will take place 30 days after its publication, with the auction scheduled to commence at 10:00 am at the auctioneer’s offices.
