The annual Dave Hodgson slums’ football tournament was successfully held at the Kanyanya playground in Kampala city on Wednesday, 22nd May 2024.

This tournament whose theme was “Changing lives through compassion and generosity” was won by Sparta 09 Football Academy.

Fifteen (15) teams took part in this interesting day-long championship for children under 13 years.

Children had a field day at office with thrilling football matches

Sparta 09 won the thrilling finale 3-0 over Namungoona Junior to win gold medals, a trophy and a set of jerseys.

Ali Ssenkunda, the programs manager at the main organizers Everton Uganda, the main objective of this tournament was to bring together slum kids in Uganda, show them happiness through football by networking and fair-play.

“This soccer tournament for slum kids in Uganda was held in appreciation of Dave Hodgson and family who has supported these inititatives from scratch . The tournament truly brings football home especially for slum kids from all over Kampala and beyond. It was about fighting for the bragging rights in the slums.” Ssenkunda noted.

The program also included other free health activities like free HIV Testing and Counseling, blood donation, and free medical support, etc.

“It was all fun as the kids had an opportunity to work for scholarship placements to schools” coach Ibrahim Nsereko, the chairperson of the local organizing committee stated.

Since 2014, Everton Uganda Academy has been serving with diligence and operated in the midst of Uganda’s biggest slum area.

The academy has a boys and girl’s team with operations for Amptee football.
