The 2024 Pool Queen and King Championships were successfully concluded in Jinja city on Saturday, 22nd June.

Joseph “Sharp Shooter” Kasozi and Marion “Ankah Sheila” Kisakye were the respective victors.

Kasozi overcame the reigning Nile Special national open champion Caesar Chandiga 7-6.

On the other hand, Kisakye won in a nail-biting penalty shootout against national champion Rukia Nayiga.

Kasozi displayed remarkable resilience throughout the championship, solidifying his reputation as a “comeback king.”

At some stage, he trailed 4-2 in the final against Chandiga. He then called a timeout and used it to his advantage.

Upon return, he commanded the lead 6-4. Chandiga clawed his way back with two wins, but, Kasozi held his nerve and secured the final point to claim the coveted Pool King title.

Elated with the win, Kasozi acknowledged the high level of competition and expressed his confidence throughout the match. His triumph was rewarded with a cash prize of Shs3m.

“I am happy for my victory. The competition was high throughout but I gave it my best” Kasozi noted.

Kisakye and Nayiga’s finale ended 5-all when the allocated time of play expired.

Then, penalties were called to determine the winner with Kisakye winning 9-8 to excite the home crowd.

Kisakye’s heroic performance earned her Shs 2,000,000.

Pool Association of Uganda (PAU) officials in Jinja

The championship finals were unfortunately delayed due to a player protest. Despite this setback, the award ceremony eventually took place at 9 pm. 

According to the Pool Association of Uganda (PAU) publicity secretary George Katongole, the association is keen for a successful Nile Special National League and Nile Special National Open Pool Championship.
