Pastor Martin Ssempa of Makerere Community Church has claimed that he narrowly escaped an assassination attempt over the weekend.
This incident comes after the Pastor had earlier revealed that he was being trailed by unknown individuals, prompting concerns for his safety.
Ssempa, who has been a controversial figure due to his opposition to the legalization of homosexuality in Uganda, shared that his life has been in danger for some time.
In response to these threats, he requested prayers and increased security from his followers and the authorities.
According to the Pastor, he decided to take a temporary break from the public eye and retreat to a bunker he had personally constructed for such emergencies.
On the day of the alleged assassination attempt, Ssempa was away from his home in Kasanje, engaged in some construction work. It was during this time that he was reportedly ambushed by six men in two vehicles, but he managed to escape unscathed.
Ssempa suspects that the culprits behind the attack could either be military personnel collaborating with land grabbers or individuals angered by his strong stance against homosexuality.
His activism in this area has made him a target of those who support LGBTQ+ rights in Uganda.
Following the incident, Ssempa reported the matter to the Police, who responded by assigning him two escorts for his protection.
Guys I survived two attempted assassinations today. I left my hideout bunker and did some critical road construction work at my home in Jungo Kasanje today.. was twice waylaid by two cars with 6 guys in it.. I narrowly survived death today..suspect that It’s either military related land grabbers or Perverts. I had to go to police and get two escorts to get me to the highway. I really need security.
