Charlamagne Calls Kendrick “King”

As The Shade Room previously reported, Kendrick Lamar had the West Coast cuttin’ up on Juneteenth. The Compton-bred rapper headlined his own three-hour ‘Pop Out’ concert in Los Angeles, and the show was filled with several surprises.

On Thursday’s episode of ‘The Breakfast Club,’ Charlamagne Tha God, Jess Hilarious, and DJ Envy reacted to Kendrick’s iconic spectacle. However, it was Charlamagne Tha God that seemed to have the most to say about the lyricist’s show. The radio host revisited K.Dot’s dominance in hip hop amid his ongoing rap feud with Drake since March.

Charlamagne asserted during the discussion of the Juneteenth show that he believes K. Dot has solidified his position as the reigning king.

“To me the show wasn’t about Drake as much it was about Kendrick Lamar becoming the undisputed heavyweight champion of hip hop. Like, when it comes to this new generation, we’ve been watching over the last fifteen years, Kendrick is the king of hip hop and its not even close. I’m not talking about charts, I’m not talking about streaming records, I’m not talking about pop songs, singing on songs, I’m talking about bars, rap, hip hop, culture. Kendrick wears that crown and its not even close,” Charlamagne said.

HotNewHipHop reported that Charlamagne also suggested Kendrick’s performance was a victory lap, as he applied continuous pressure to his competition.

“Kendrick set the tone. He let us know that this was a victory lap, and he came there to blood and crip-walk on his enemy’s head-top,” Charlamagne stated.

Social Media Reacts To Charlamagne Tha God’s Comment

Despite Charlamagne’s beliefs, the Roomies had a lot to say about his remarks in The Shade Room comment section. Many social media users seemed to believe that one moment doesn’t solidify a crown.

Instagram user @mrhavefaith wrote, “Be honest if Drake and Kendrick didn’t partake in a beef would we be talking about Kendrick.”

While Instagram user @champagnepapiisbabe wrote, “Kendrick talented but one moment doesn’t solidify the spot Drake dominated for years on end.”

Instagram user @jr_ransom wrote, “1 song, 1 concert in 7 years and he the KING?”

Then Instagram user @danieljean56b wrote, “So what happened to Drake’s last 15 years straight?”

Instagram user @alanna wrote, “Don’t disrespect Drake like that. All hip hop clubs play Drake songs 20X more than any other artist.”

Another Instagram user @shanicetiara wrote, “Drake gonna drop the summer hit and yall gonna forget all about lil Kendrick. Y’all don’t even listen to Kendrick be real lol.”

Finally, Instagram user @inreallifetho2.0 wrote, “He biased cause he don’t like Drake.”

Details on K. Dot’s Juneteenth Concert

Kendrick Lamar had the West Coast jumpin’ with his ‘Pop Out’ concert on Juneteenth at the Forum in Los Angeles.

According to The Shade Room, the monumental moment included surprise performances from Tyler The Creator, Dom Kennedy, Ty Dolla $ign, Roddy Rich, YG, Dr. Dre, Mustard & Friends, Schoolboy Q, Jay Rock, Steve Lacy, and Ab-Soul.

K. Dot’s set was filled with some of his popular records as well as his diss tracks aimed at Drake. The ‘Swimming Pools’ artist started the show with ‘Euphoria’ and later spit ‘6:16 in LA,’ along with his verse on Future and Metro Boomin’s ‘Like That.’

What really stole the night was the fact that he performed ‘Not Like Us’ five times. King Kenny had the crowd shaking as he rapped the lyrics to the popular Drake diss while many celebrities joined him onstage.
