NRM E.C.Chairman Tang Odoi calls for Parliament Speaker, Deputy aspiring candidates to express their interests 

Following the Central Executive Meeting held on Friday morning at State House Entebbe, The Chairman of the Electoral Commission of Resistance Movement (NRM) party Dr. Tang Odoi has this evening of Friday 22nd May 2023 called for candidates vying for the position of Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda to submit the application to express their interests to stand in the highly contested top positions of the 12th August house. 

The position became vacant after the previous Speaker of Parliament asked to step down from the race, an application that was received and approved by CEC.

“Since the withdraw of Hon. Anita Annet Among former Speaker from the race of Speakership, there was need to start the process afresh by calling expression of interest despite being on short notice” Tang Odoi said

During the press conference held on Friday at NRM Electoral office, Tang Odoi said that the applications will accepted at the NRM offices from today Friday at 8:00pm, up to tomorrow Saturday 23rd May 2026, awaiting for presentation to the CEC for vetting on Sunday morning, followed the submission to the NRM Caucus for candidates to compete in elections set on Monday 25th May 2026.

“On Sunday 24th May 2026, we will present to CEC the candidates for vetting, and the approved names will be submitted to the Parliament Caucus for competition whereever the parliament will be sitting. There will no campaigns allowed through the exercise and no bribery of voters will be toralated” he asserted.

In the road map, all those intending to participate is supposed to write to a letter to the Party Electoral Chairman, with a Curriculum Vitae and other supportive documents.
