Minister Amos Lugolobi calls for utilization of UBOS’s Labour Market Survey Report to plan for employment decisions.
Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has released the Labour Market Survey report 2025 revealing unemployment rate at 12.2% with youth unemplyment at 18% for the working age group from 15 years and above.
The State Minister of Finance, Planning and Development in charge of Planning Amos Lugolobi revealead that the report acts as an eye opener for stakeholderts to identify and asses which intervention to apply in the supply and demand of labour.
“Users can refer to the the report and incorperate them in their planning. The labour market report can reveal where we stand as a country, giving key pointers in the labour force subsector” he said
The Executive Director UBOS Dr. Chris Mukiza said that they are going to conduct regular labour reports because unemployment is a major challenges facing the country to enable users to plan better with informed decisions.
“We shall publish the labour market survey report every quarter. We have prioritised it so that policy makers can address the issue using the the statistics” he said
The report shows that Unemployment rate among working age group at 12.4 while the those of youth at 18%. The Informal employment excluding
agriculture, forestry and fishing stands at 87.6%
The reports also reveals that the number of Employees is 2,373,109, Job Vacancies 155,240 while Jobs lost 46,217, with 57.6 percent of persons aged 14-64 were in the working age population and of those 58.8 percent are males.
Findings from the survey further indicate that most people are employed in the services sector with a 50.5% National average. The sector employs more Females at 56.4% and 46.3% of Males, Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing is second, employing 37.1% of the population, with 36.7% Males and 37.4% Females.
The industry sector employs 12.4% of the population with 6.9% Males and 16.3% Females
The Labour Market Survey report shows that 57.6% of people aged 14-64 years fall within the working age population. Of these, 58.8% are Males while 56.2% are Females.
The Employment-to-Population Ratio (15 years and above) was highest in Bunyoro sub region and lowest in Bukedi.
