Shubman Gill Birthday: Top Records and Feats – Khelostar

Team India captains Shubman Gill, the Test and ODI team captain, marked his 27th birthday on September 8 and it was apt that the day has been celebrated as a milestone of his international career. A Career Built Across Formats

Gill made his debut in an ODI against New Zealand in January 2019 and goes on to have over 140 international appearances in all three formats, having scored more than 7200 runs with a mean of over 40 in an ODI. He has 21 centuries and more than 30 half centuries to his name. 

A Snapshot Across Tests, ODIs and T20Is

His numbers across the three formats read as follows:

• Tests: over 3,000 runs at an average close to 44, with 11 centuries and nine fifties

• ODIs: close to 3,400 runs at an outstanding average above 60, including nine centuries and 20 fifties

• T20Is: nearly 870 runs at a strike rate above 138, with one century and multiple fifties

Youngest to a Century in All Three Formats

Gill is also the youngest Indian to do all of the three international centuries in Tests, ODI and T20Is, which he achieved on 126 runs against New Zealand in Ahmedabad last February. 

Fastest to Landmark ODI Milestones on Khelostar's List

Gill has his numbers really highlighted in one-day cricket. He scored 2,000 runs in 38 innings of ODI cricket, which was the previous record of Hashim Amla. South Africa, a gap of 62 innings from 3,000 runs, he was the fastest Indian to achieve this milestone. He is also the youngest player to get an ODI double century with his score at 23 years and 132 days. 

A Champions Trophy to Remember

Gill was also a leading performer when India won the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, with 188 runs in five innings, averaging 47 points with a century against Bangladesh in the tournament. 

The Historic 2025 England Tour

Gill's very first ODI assignment as captain of the Test side was in England in 2025 and in the process, it became one of the best debut series in the history of the Test format. He played five matches in that series and scored 754 runs to average 75.40 points and chalked four centuries to become the first batsman to register four centuries in a debut series as a captain. Don Bradman and Sunil Gavaskar are the only two who have captained four centuries in a Test series. 

A Historic 269 at Edgbaston

His 269 runs at Edgbaston remains the best score by an Indian Test skip while he was in the middle of the game ahead of Virat Kohli's 254 not out against South Africa in 2019. Gill also became the first Asian captain to make a double century in a SENA country (South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia), with his 200 topping Tillakaratne Dilshan's 193. 

India's Biggest Away Test Win

The same Edgbaston Test also saw India's biggest away score, that of 336 runs at England with a target of 608 runs. Gill was the youngest Indian captain to win a Test in SENA countries at the age of 25-years-301 days.

Gill's entire Test career is a testament to his prowess as captain, whether he is at the crease or behind it. Registered five centuries as captain in his first year as captain, which is the joint-most by any player to make in their debut year as Test captain. He has also been an outstanding captain, being one of the top two, with Don Bradman, by batting average in the history of the format. 

India's Biggest-Ever Test Win

In addition to the England tour, Gill has also been instrumental in India's biggest Test win to date, as they downed Afghanistan by an innings and 300 runs in Mullanpur back in June 2026.
