Maj. Asiimwe rallies Nakapiripirit leaders on poverty eradication, anti-corruption & post-elections unity
Major Martha Asiimwe, Head of the RDC Secretariat and Anti-Corruption Unit in the Office of the President, has rallied leaders in Nakapiripirit District to strengthen the fight against poverty, corruption, and division, emphasizing that effective service delivery must remain the central focus of all government structures.
While addressing district leaders, technical officers, security representatives, cultural and religious leaders during a mobilisation and monitoring engagement in Nakapiripirit, Maj. Asiimwe said the RDC Secretariat and Anti-Corruption Unit was established by H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in 2018 to ensure that government programmes directly benefit ordinary Ugandans.
“We are not here to decorate offices. We are here to ensure services reach the last person in the last village,” she said.
Maj. Asiimwe commended the people of Nakapiripirit for their continued support towards government programmes and called upon leaders at all levels to prioritise reconciliation and unity following the recent elections.
“Elections come and go, but service to the people must continue without division. Leaders must work together across political, technical and security structures to focus on what truly matters — service delivery,” she noted.
She urged leaders to move away from politics of identity and instead focus on practical solutions that improve livelihoods, expand access to education and healthcare, create jobs, and increase household incomes.
The Head of the RDC Secretariat/ACU further emphasized that the government’s current priority is the eradication of poverty through wealth creation initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, Youth Livelihood Programme, UWEP and SAGE.
According to Maj. Asiimwe, Nakapiripirit District has already benefited significantly from these interventions, with UGX 12.8 billion disbursed under PDM to support over 9,900 households, while Emyooga SACCOs have received more than UGX 1 billion to boost enterprise development and financial inclusion.
She however cautioned leaders against mismanagement and corruption, warning that theft of public resources undermines national transformation efforts.
“The Office of the RDC, together with anti-corruption agencies, remains committed to fighting corruption and ensuring accountability. District leaders are the first line of defence against corruption,” she stressed.
Maj. Asiimwe highlighted key concerns including theft of medicines, misuse of PDM and Emyooga funds, absenteeism by public officers, illegal land evictions and poor supervision of government projects, noting that public resources must be protected and directed towards improving citizens’ welfare.
“Our goal is to ensure that a growing money economy is also a corruption-free economy,” she added.
She also underscored the importance of peace and security as the foundation for socio-economic transformation, commending the role played by the security forces in maintaining national stability and enabling development programmes to thrive.
Maj. Asiimwe called upon district leaders, RDCs, technical officers and security actors to remain professional, accountable and people-centred in executing their duties.
“Service delivery is our priority, unity is our strength, accountability is our responsibility, and transformation is our mission,” she said.
She concluded by urging all leaders and citizens to work together in mobilising communities, strengthening patriotism, exposing corruption and supporting government programmes aimed at creating a prosperous, united and self-reliant Uganda.
