Miss Climate Change Awareness Uganda is an initiative empowering Women, a purpose-driven pageant organized by the Africa Tourism and Environment Initiative (ATEI) aims at empowering young women as environmental ambassadors to raise awareness, promote sustainability, and fight climate change.

The 2026 edition climaxed on Saturday 22rd March 2026 at Ministry of Water and Environment auditorium following regional competition.

Finalists of the competition were urged to be ambassadors who will advocate for sustainable practices, inspire community action, and influence policies to improve Uganda's climate resilience.

The Permanent Secretary Mi istry of Water and Environment Mr. Okot said that in Uganda climate change has been manifested in rising temperatures, more erratic rainfall, and extreme weather events such as floods and drought. Rainfall has become less predictable, with erratic arrivals and endings of rainfall seasons in recent years.

“The individual rainfalls have notably been heavier and more violent; floods and landslides are increasing in intensity, as experienced in most parts of the country in the past year. Additionally, droughts are also on the rise in Uganda, with the western, northern and north-eastern regions experiencing more frequent, severe and longer-lasting droughts than have been seen historically;”he said.

Mr. Bismarck Ampaire, the Executive Director of Africa Tourism and Environment Initiatives called for stronger collaboration with government and support to climate change mitigation awareness across the country and university spaces where students can participate in debates and policy decision making.

The pangeant ceremony is part of the celebration to mark Uganda Water and Environment Week themed “Climate action for water and environment for an inclusive and Prosperous Uganda Water and Environment Week (UWEWK)”

The pageant is a project of the Africa Tourism and Environment Initiative, in collaboration with partners such as the Ministry of Water and Environment.
