Victoria Pearls’ squad for the Global T20 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers slated for April 19 to May 2 in Abu Dhabi has been announced with a change in leadership.

Janet Mbabazi has been elevated from Vice Captain to Captain with Rita Musamali taking up the Vice Captain role. Mbabazi has been Vice Captain since 2017 replaces Consy Aweko who has been in the role since 2022.

There is only one change in the squad with Immaculate Nandera making way for Proscovia Alako who had lost her place after the Africa Qualifiers in Entebbe but she has since worked her way back in the selectors favour.

The batting continues to trouble the team, especially getting a good start so it’s no surprise that Alako has been brought back into the team where she will push for a place in a fragile top order of Gloria Obukor, Esther Iloku and Immaculate Nakisuyi.

The rest of the squad has been kept intact from the team that travelled to India for the training tour and the African Games in Ghana.

There is no return for Irene Alumo to the side with the selectors keeping faith with the bowlers in the squad. Marisa Ariokot, Evelyn Anyipo and Sarah Akiteng didn’t get too much game time in Ghana and offer more options to the side.

Uganda is in Group A alongside Sri Lanka, USA, Scotland and Thailand. They will play two warm up games ahead of the tournament against UAE and Vanuatu.

The games against Scotland and Thailand will be played as night games, a first time experience for the Victoria Pearls.

The Full Team: Janet Mbabazi (Captain), Rita Musamali (Vice Captain), Consy Aweko, Kevin Awino, Stephanie Nampiina, Immaculate Nakisuyi, Evelyn Anyipo, Sarah Akiteng, Phionah Khulume, Proscovia Alako, Gloria Obukor, Esther Iloku, Lorna Anyait, Malissa Ariokot, Sarah Walaza.
