Uganda Cup holders Vipers have petitioned FUFA over unfair officiating in the Uganda Cup quarterfinal against Kitara at the Masindi Municipal Stadium on Sunday.

Vipers were ejected by Kitara from the Uganda Cup in a 5-4 penalty shootout following a two-all draw after extra time.

However, through the club CEO, Simon Peter Njuba, the Kitende-based side has expressed its disappointment, noting that the result was due to unfair officiating.

“We address your office and seek intervention on this matter. That our concern has been drawn to the above-stated fixture played at Masindi Stadium on 14/04/2024, 3:00 pm and the same was live on FUFA TV,” the statement partly reads.

“We wish to draw your attention to particular incidents of bad/biased refereeing out of the many that transpired under officiation of Matchday centre referee Ali Sabila Chelengat as stated below.

  • In the 66th minute, Kitara FC was awarded a controversial penalty kick that was never valid as the purported fouled player (Jude Ssemugabi) carried out simulation.
  • In the 87th minute, a Vipers SC  player was fouled in the penalty area of Kitara FC right in front of the referee and as such no penalty was awarded to Vipers even when it should have been the case.”

In the letter sent to FUFA, Vipers attached the videos of the selected incidents.

As the club awaits FUFA’s ruling, Vipers will renew its rivalry with Kitara on Friday, April 19 in the highly anticipated Uganda Premier League encounter.
