IUEA Partners with Vologda State University to Equip Students with Farming Technology and Cultural Heritage Research

KAMPALA, UGANDA – The International University of East Africa (IUEA) has entered into a new academic collaboration with Vologda State University, aimed at equipping students with modern fish farming technology and engaging them in research on Uganda’s cultural heritage.

The partnership was unveiled during a seminar titled “Nations Cultural Heritage” held at IUEA on Friday, 14th August 2026, following an academic exchange visit between the two institutions.

Speaking at the seminar, Prof. Denis Dvornikov from Vologda State University announced that the project, first unveiled in December 2025, will focus on three key areas: Fish Farming Technology, Tourism, and Cultural Heritage.

“We are going to engage IUEA students to conduct research on Uganda’s Cultural Heritage. This will cover traditional lifestyles including harvesting culture, faith, songs, rituals, family heritage, mutual aid, blessings, dances, and food,” Prof. Dvornikov said.

 “Every nation has the right to independent existence to the extent that it is aware of it. Culture connects to real life community relationships. Population density preserves those traditions that belong to the community.”

He emphasized the importance of safeguarding intangible heritage as recognized by UNESCO, noting that traditions such as songs and rituals unite communities and must be transferred to future generations.

 “Heritage should be saved and promoted. A traditional song for instance unites voices, language, gestures, beliefs, and memory that can be transferred to future generations.”

The Vice Chancellor of IUEA Emeka Akaeziwa underscored the university’s commitment to integrating cultural knowledge into education.“Different courses have a connection with culture. It is important to acquire knowledge through attending such seminars. Your culture is the foundation of who you are. At IUEA we treasure this through events like our Culture Gala Days that unite different cultures.”

Through this collaboration, IUEA students will gain hands-on exposure to *sustainable aquaculture technologies* from Vologda State University, while also documenting and preserving Uganda’s diverse cultural practices.
