Global Alliance on Improved Nutrition (GAIN) Uganda in partnership with the Ministry of Health supported by the  Kingdom of the Netherlands  have organized a 2-day expo dubbed ‘Ebyendisa Expo 2026’ at UMA Show grounds Lugogo from 30th April to 1st May 2026 bringing together agriculture, nutrition, and food systems to bridge availability and consumption.

The major expo according to the Country Director GAIN Uganda Damali Ssali aims at promoting healthy diets, improve nutrition outcomes, and strengthen food systems by connecting farmers, food processors, and consumers.

During a press conference, held on Monday 20th April 2026 at Four Point by Sheraton Hotel,  Damali told journalists that the expo Over 130 businesses have already registered to exhibit, and registration is free for participants with free entrance.

She said that the event is designed to transform nutrition from mere information into an experience involving food, learning, and culture.

Uganda is often described as a food basket. We produce a wide variety of foods. Yet, despite this abundance, many Ugandans are not eating well. Diets remain heavily carbohydrate-based. We’re counting down to Ebyendiisa Expo 2026. This convening brings together partners, ideas, and evidence to advance better diets, stronger food systems” she said.

She added that “Closing the gap between food availability and informed consumption requires more than good intentions”

 Emmanuel Ainebyona

Ministry of Health’s Senior Communications Officer Mr. Emmanuel Ainebyona said that expo addresses urgent nutrition concerns, particularly malnutrition in children and poor nutrition among breastfeeding mothers.

This Expo is moving beyond awareness to practical demonstration. People will learn what constitutes a balanced diet and how to prepare it, especially for children and mothers” he said

This event follows initiatives like the "Fit Food Vegetables for All" project, which focuses on strengthening vegetable supply chains, and the "Beera Mama Owakabi" campaign, aimed at increasing vegetable consumption in family meals.

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) in Uganda works to improve access to safe, nutritious food by partnering with the public and private sectors to address malnutrition and enhance agricultural supply chain
