Arsenal's mass exodus: Matteo Guendouzi in Germany for Hertha medical, Lucas Torreira set to seal Atletico switch.
  • Matteo Guendouzi is closing in on joining Hertha Berlin for a season-long loan
  • The hot-headed Arsenal midfielder was frozen out by Mikel Arteta this season
  • Guendouzi has begun his medical on deadline day ahead of the short-term stint
  • Lucas Torreira underwent medical checks with Atletico Madrid at the weekend

Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi is in Germany and began his medical this morning ahead of his loan move to Hertha Berlin.

The out-of-favour 21-year-old has become surplus to requirements under Mikel Arteta this season after questions were raised over his attitude. He arrived from Lorient in 2018 for £8million but was in trouble with his boss towards the end of last season after it was reported he taunted Brighton players about their wages during a Premier League game.

Lucas Torreira also had a medical over the weekend, with Atletico Madrid, and is waiting for the Spaniards to sell players before his loan can be ratified.

It is expected the deal will also include an option to make it permanent for £22m.

Torreira's representative Pablo Betancur held positive talks with Atletico earlier this week and Arsenal sporting director Edu is keen to help push the deal through.

Atletico striker Nikola Kalinic is talking to Verona with the La Liga club also active on deadline day.

Bayer Leverkusen remain in talks for Sead Kolasinac and there are loan offers from Italy for Sokratis and Shkodran Mustafi.

Kolasinac has been displaced at left-back by the impressive Kieran Tierney, while both centre-backs have also struggled for regular action in recent months.

Arsenal have been chasing a new central midfielder this summer but look set to miss out with the window slamming shut in just a matter of hours.

Houssem Aouar has been a target for some time but the news from France on Monday morning was that he would be staying with Lyon.
