WEAR A RED RIBBON TO END HIV AIDS- PRESIDENTS OFFICE
The Uganda Aids Commission has today 23rd October launched a campaign dubbed "wear the ribbon" in a continued effort to drive the agenda of ending HIV AIDS by the year 2030.
Speaking at the Uganda Media Center, officials from the commission which is under the office of the president said that
If everyone wore a red ribbon in solidarity of fighting the disease, it will help remind people especially the younger ones to avoid practices that promote HIV prevalence.
The officials also went ahead and revealed that On the 13th of November Uganda Aids Commission will host a conference at OPM to release a report that shows the achievements of the efforts. The report will examine the targets the challenges and the way forward.
The officials from Uganda Aids commission went on and called upon all Ugandans to go and check their statuses in order to determine their course of action.
Currently the rate of children getting HIV is still high per year (4700) therefore there's a need to up efforts to reduce the number. They added.
According to Dr Steven watiti, there's a need to explain the HIV issue properly to the. General population. A person who has been severely sick will get well after getting the ARVs . The HIV positive are a few in number about 1.4 million people in the whole of Uganda therefore achieving the 2030 target is possible.
The officials also called upon employers not to fire people with HIV AIDS. The target of UAC is to make sure the HIV is eliminated by 2030.
