PDM funds boost will benefit more Ugandans in subsistence economy: Snr. Advisor Byaruhanga.
The government has increased funding to bolster poverty eradication, with annual PDM allocations expanding to up to UGX 500 million per parish.
According to the Senior Presidential Advisor on Mobilisation, Moses Byaruhanga, he says has actively supported this expansion, emphasizing that PDM funds successfully deliver essential capital to grassroots households to improve livelihoods.
He said that the increase as per the presidential directives, aims to address the needs of the approximately 39% of Ugandan households still in the subsistence economy.
“The enhanced Capital if made availability range per parish, SACCOs. It can revolve more capital to eligible members” he said.
He emphasized that the loan repayments under the set financial model is designed to grow as initial recipients repay their UGX 1 million loans at a 6% interest rate after a two-year grace period.
“These repayments remain in the parish to fund new members, allowing a sustainable, community-driven financial ecosystem”he said
Byaruhanga highlights that the PDM structure is reaching millions of Ugandans, with beneficiary projects not only providing direct income but also generating additional employment in local communities.
To ensure that funds are properly utilized and don't end up squandered, Byaruhanga advises small-scale traders and individuals to organize themselves into formal, structured SACCOs and groups.
“Because the money stays in the Parish SACCO, it serves as a revolving fund, creating long-term opportunities for more homesteaders to borrow and start income-generating projects” he said.
The Senior Advisor made the remarks during a Swearing in party of Minister for Kampala Hon. Minsa Kabanda held at Old Kampala Secondary playground, that attracted diginitaries including Hon. Kasolo state Minister for Kampala, State Minister for ICT B Joyce, Pastor Aloysious Bugingo, among others
