Event: 8^th Mutalaga Christmas Cup

Official opening match day: Monday, 8^th July 2024

Opening Games:

Jesus FC (Seguku) Vs Kanaaba United (Ndejje) – 2PM
St Mary’s FC (Katale) Vs Professor Buwembo FC (Makindye) – 4 PM

The eight edition of the Mutalaga Christmas football cup was officially launched at Grand Imperial Hotel in Kampala on Thursday, 4^th July 2024.

The chief brain behind this project Frank Ssebanenya Mutalaga witnessed this occasion alongside the members of the local organizing committee and the media.

The local organizing committee chairperson is Tony Katende who promised a successful tournament.

Mutalaga, a successful businessman with a keen interest for football reiterated the essence of this tournament.

“This tournament has helped the youths to showcase their talents.” Mutalaga hinted

“I am not aiming at any political office but my target is to help the youths prosper through their football talents.” He stressed.

“This will be the eight edition of this remarkable tournament but we couldn’t be here if the media had not played a key role. I thank journalists for amplifying this tournament and sports in general” he appreciated.

The equipment that will be used for the tournament as balls, goal nets, corner flags and others were also officially handed over to Katende, the chairperson of the steering committee.

Katende lauded Mutalaga for the generosity towards such a noble cause.

“I take this opportunity to thank Mr Mutalaga Frank for his generosity. He has supported the football community through this tournament. We assure everyone of a tremendous eighth edition of the event.” Katende applauded.

The 2024 season is very promising with over 100 teams registered.

From these, 80 will progress to the group stages with each team receiving Ug/Shs 300,000.

Officially, the tournament kicks off on Monday, 8^th July 2024 at the Lweza playground with a double header.

The early kick off at 2 PM will have Seguku based Jesus FC take on Ndejje’s Kanaaba United.

This will be followed by a contest between St Mary’s FC (Katale) and Professor Buwembo FC from Makindye at 4 PM.

The final day of the tournament will be on December 25^th (Christmas Day).

The winning team is assured of a BULL, Ug.Shs 2,000,0000 and a set of jerseys.
