Yasin relives dreadful roll in Safari rally Kenya

Yasin Nasser will have to wait another year to search for a WRC Safari rally finish following his dreadful exit from the 2024 edition on Friday.

Yasin and Ali Katumba saw all their efforts disappear when they rolled their Ford Fiesta rally2 in SS7, Kedong stage.

The damage was extreme that they could not opt for a restart.

“It was a very unpleasant scene for us. It took Ali and I some minutes to understand how exactly the car rolled,” said Yasin.

“But later, we realised it wasn’t our making. In that specific spot we rolled, there was a lot of soft soil and the surface had gone deep from the impact of the cars. So it create some kind of a deep hole.”

“We didn’t anticipate anything like that and we followed our notes. And it’s that dip that threw us away,” he explained.

The Moil rally team has not enjoyed much of the WRC Safari rally in recent attempts.

In 2021, the crew exited the event on leg two with an engine failure.

Yasin is pursuing the Kenya rally championship this year. There will be some work to do to have the Ford back on road before the next KNRC event next month.

“The impact of the roll was a bit hard on Nemo(Ford). But the car was fully inspected by the M-sport team and we shall work around the clock to get it back before our next event,” he added.

Yasin Nasser is the reigning Uganda and Tanzania rally champion.
