VERY UNFORTUNATE!! Deadly Accident Claims Lives of Seven Ugandans, Here Are The Details

A tragic accident has claimed the lives of seven Ugandans after a boat capsized in Amolatar District. The vessel overturned near Kiryanga Village in Acii Sub-county, leaving families and the community in shock.
According to the territorial maritime police in Amolatar, the accident happened around 11:00 a.m. on Friday. The boat, carrying 36 passengers, struck a stationary tree stump approximately 400 meters from the Kiryanga landing site and capsized.
Of the 36 passengers on board, 29 survived the accident. Authorities confirmed that rescue efforts were promptly launched, but seven people tragically lost their lives.
The passengers were reportedly travelling from Muchora Abino A Village to Kiryanga. They were escorting a catechist attending a burial ceremony when the accident occurred, highlighting the unfortunate circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
The deceased have been identified as Odeke Steven, 65, LC1 chairperson of Muchora Abino A Village, Acii Sub-county; Aguti Catherine, 55, from Okwalongen Sub-county, Dokolo District; Abonyo Sylvia, 35, resident of Amuda Village, Soroti District; Ogwal Jaspher, 38, from Corner Bileo Trading Centre, Arwotcek Sub-county; Ejang Robina, 30, of Alemere Bung Cell, Epel Ward, Amolatar Town Council; Agwech Semmy, 20, from Etam Sub-county, Amolatar District; and one unidentified male adult.
The bodies were taken to Amolatar Health Centre IV mortuary for post-mortem examinations, while investigations into the exact cause of the accident continue. Authorities are keen to determine whether safety measures were followed and if the boat was in proper condition.
This tragic event has sent shockwaves through the local community, especially in the villages affected by the loss. Residents expressed deep sadness and grief over the sudden deaths of community members.
Maritime police have urged boat operators and passengers to exercise extreme caution while travelling on Uganda’s lakes. They emphasized the need for adherence to safety protocols, including wearing life jackets and avoiding overloading vessels.
Family members of the victims are awaiting news about potential compensation and support, while local leaders have called for solidarity with the bereaved families during this difficult time.
Authorities continue to investigate the accident and are expected to issue a detailed report in the coming days. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with water transport and the importance of enforcing safety regulations.
