UK Demand for Cockapoos and Poodle-Cross Puppies Keeps Climbing in 2026

Families and first-time owners are choosing Cockapoos and other poodle-cross puppies in ever greater numbers, drawn by their friendly temperament and low-shedding coats. Douglas Hall Kennels explains what is behind the trend and what prospective buyers should consider before bringing a puppy home.

Few dogs have captured the public's affection quite like the Cockapoo. As 2026 unfolds, interest in poodle-cross puppies shows no sign of slowing across the UK. Prospective owners say they want a family-friendly companion dog that is affectionate, intelligent and easy to train, and these crossbreeds tick many of those boxes. Their soft, wavy coats are often low-shedding, which appeals to households wary of dog hair, although no breed is completely hypoallergenic.

Rising popularity brings fresh responsibilities, too. Those who work with dogs consistently stress that a puppy's early weeks shape its whole life. Health screening of parent dogs, gentle socialisation in a real home environment, and honest conversations about grooming, exercise and training all help create a good match between puppy and family. Buyers are also becoming more discerning, asking sharper questions about breeder transparency, puppy welfare and ongoing support. According to Douglas Hall Kennels, that is a very welcome change.

"Cockapoos and other poodle crosses are loved because they are clever, sociable and eager to please," said a spokesperson for Douglas Hall Kennels. "But popularity should never come before welfare. We encourage every family to ask plenty of questions, understand how a puppy has been raised, and think carefully about their daily routine. A well-bred, well-reared puppy is a commitment for life, and we want every new owner to feel confident, prepared and supported from the very first day."
