ITF Men’s World Tennis Tour

For the next two weeks, global attention from the Tennis fraternity will be focused at Kampala Club in Uganda’s capital as the 2024 ITF Men’s world tennis tour rages on.

The tournament returns to Uganda after five year absence since it was last held in May 2019 at Lugogo Tennis complex.

“It is a great opportunity that Uganda is hosting the ITF Men’s World Tennis Tour events. The tournaments are promoting Uganda directly and indirectly with enormous benefits in sports tournaments, hotels and service provision. There is also a big possibility of developing local organizing capacity as chair umpires and other organizers as well as promotion of local tennis talents” Matthias Nalyanya, president of Uganda Tennis Association told the media during the official launch at Kampala club.

The ITF Men’s world tennis tour lures the finest tennis players from different corners of the world, with two prize money levels of tournaments: $15,000 and $ 25,000.

The tournaments at $15,000 level include reserved main draw place for the top 100 ranked ITF juniors, providing a smooth pathway for the best new talent break through into elite professional tennis.

The ITF men’s world tennis tour is also designed to target prize money effectively to help reduce costs for players and ultimately enable more players to make a living.

Three Ugandans will play in this tournament; Simon Ayella, Trevor Kazibwe and Frank Tayebwa, who featured for the country in the recently concluded Davis Cup in Gaborone city, Botswana.

Zimbabwe’s Benjamin Lock is the top ranked seed in the M-25 tournament.

The qualifiers will take place on Sunday 6th and climax on the  7th October 2024.

Officials:

South African Mxolisi Matyolo is the main referee for the tournament and he will work with a number of other established officials on the continent including Musa Saidu Bala from Nigeria as well as Uganda’s  Charles Wanyama, Michael Sebidde, Ivan Oryada, David Tyaba and Maria Goretti Naiga and Kenyan Ronald Okoth Oduor (Kenya).

For starters, the ITF Men’s world Tennis tour provides entry-level professional tournaments and provide a pathway between the ITF Junior world tennis tour and the elite levels of men’s professional tennis.

The results of ITF tournaments are incorporated into the ATP Ranking, which enables professionals to progress to the ATP challenger tour and ATP Tour, an ultimately, the Grand slams.

The Tour offers approximately 550 tournaments across 70 countries.

Local partners:

The partners as National Council of Sports, Jibu Water as well as the designated hotels for the event; Fairway Boutique Hotel, The Choate Boutique Hotel and Explorer’s Hub Hotel will join hands to make the tournament a success.
