Uganda Prisons Services boss Byabashaija elected head of laity in North Kigezi Diocese

North Kigezi Diocese has elected Commissioner General of Prisons, Canon Dr. Johnson Byabashaija, as its new Head of Laity, taking over from Turyabe Abel Matiita.
His election was confirmed by the Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Onesmus Asiimwe, during the Diocesan Synod held at Emmanuel Cathedral Kinyasano on March 21, 2026.
The diocese convened its 22nd two-day residential Synod from March 20 to 21, bringing together representatives from different parishes, including priests and the Bishop’s nominees.
During the same Synod, Ven. Capt. Jallon Atusinguza was elected as the Head of the House of Clergy.
The newly elected leaders are expected to guide the diocese in strengthening unity and service among the faithful.
