Rogers Kassim Mato could join Bevis Mugabi and Uche Ikpeazu Mubiru on the list of absentees from Paul Put’s initial squad for Uganda Cranes squad summoned for the forthcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Botswana and Algeria.

Mugabi and Uche withdrew before the Cranes convened camp and were replaced by Ronald Otti and Nelson Ssenkatuka respectively.

Mato who plays his club football in Macedonia with Brera Strumica was yet to join his teammates in camp on Wednesday and reports indicate he won’t show up.

Kawowo Sports couldn’t establish the exact reason for his expected absence but the coaching staff is already looking at options to take up his position.

KCCA winger Usama Arafat and Carl James Mujaguzi who plays in Ireland with Athlone Town AFC are the options suggested by Put and his staff and one of them could be on his way to join the team.

Mato scored Uganda’s winner against Tanzania in the failed 2023 Afcon qualifiers campaign.
