The Regional Centre for Mapping Resources for Development (1975) is a 20 member forum on data & land systems. Minister Judith Nabakooba is now Chair for the council of Minismyrs whileThe Permaneny Secrectary is Chair governing council.

The Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Hon Judith Nabakooba, has said that the new technology and the equipment Uganda has acquired will end land theft in Uganda.



Minister Nabakooba revealed this while closing the the 12th Conference of Ministers of the Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD) at Speke Resort Munyonyo, Kampala, on Tuesday. The conference, which attracted close to 20 Land Ministers across Africa, lasted for two days.



In her remarks, Minister Nabakooba said that Uganda has been facing a problem of land theft.



"Land demarcation using poor technology has been a challenge in Uganda. The buyers and sells would conflict on demarcations because of using old technology," she said.

She added that the new mapping technology using modern equipment will end this problem.



Nabakooba, who is the Chairperson of Council of Ministers, said the new technology will offer quality services in all member states.



"I want all member states to monitor the actives of the Regional Centre for Mapping and Resource for Development," Nabakooba said.



She added that the centre has created mapping competitions among the member states and urged Ugandan University students to get involved where by the winners are awarded.



The minister further urged all Permanent Secretaries to always have their contacts on such they don't miss the updates of the centre.



She further said that the centre members would meet twice in  a year to discuss the progress of their work. She, however, said the meeting would be on zoom to avoid movement of ministers.



She further urged all ministers to always participate person because they determine policy making. The next meeting will be held in Zambia in 2024.



Some of the winners in mapping competitions were awarded with 20,000 and 40,000 Euros, respectively.
