Stanbic Uganda Cup: Holders Vipers draw Kitara, KCCA to face BUL at quarterfinal stage

Stanbic Uganda Cup holders Vipers SC will face tricky Kitara FC at the quarterfinal stage of this year’s edition of the prestigious knockout tournament.

The Venoms were pitted away against the high flying Royals in the quarterfinal draws conducted on Wednesday at FUFA Complex, Mengo.

Former Uganda Cranes midfielder Tonny Mawejje was invited to help in the drawing of lots.

Kitara currently lead the table in the Uganda Premier League and continue to defy odds in a remarkable campaign.

Under the stewardship of coach Brian Ssenyondo, the Hoima-based outfit will hope to compete at both fronts (League and Cup).

To reach this stage, Kitara FC eliminated SC Villa while Vipers SC on the other hand got better of Iganga Young FC.

In the other all-Uganda Premier League encounter, BUL FC who won the Stanbic Uganda Cup two years ago will take on joint-record winners KCCA FC.

With the League title far beyond their reach, KCCA FC will fully focus on trying to win the Stanbic Uganda Cup to cap off what has been a start-stop season.

The Eastern Giants on the other hands are still engulfed in the race for the League title, occupying second place on the table.

The Abbey Kikomeko Bogere coached side will therefore, hope to keep their journey in the Cup going as they aim for silverware at both ends.

The other semifinal match-ups will see Police FC host NEC FC while two regional League outfits in Pajule Lions and Pakwach Young Stars FC will face off.

It should be noted that the Quarterfinal matches will be played on a one-leg basis. Incase of a draw at the end of normal time, 30 minutes of extra time shall be played and later a penalty shootout if the scoreline remains levelled.

The games will be played between 10th -14th April 2024.
