Rosebud Applauded for Boosting Uganda Exports & Employment

Rosebud Limited the country’s leading fresh flower export firm has been commended by top researchers, and government leaders for enabling the global flower market to recognize Uganda export potential with the company’s high quality fresh flowers to different countries resulting into increased exports which has brought in the country the scarce foreign income and employment opportunities to Ugandans. 

Management at the Lutembe based company and farming facility said that their exports’ increase in the recent past have been attributed to attributed to hard work and good government policies. Rosebud is is part of the Ruparelia Group under the leadership of Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia.

“Exports have increased by between 30% to 40% on the farm and that to expand the facility has been expanded  to strengthen their capacity in improving more the intermediate and high breed Roses ranging between 3.5 cm to 4.5 cm head size of which the world market demands most” a statement reads.

The labour force at the facility dominated by women and youth are part of the community around the firm they consider working with while providing safe clean water sources, a health Centre offering free light medical services, fixing the community feeder road network, an ATM slot for financial services and a supermarket selling goods at factory price for the benefit of the local population.

According to the Head of Research, Office of the National Chairman, NRM said noted that Rosebud continues to employ about 6,000 workers, which supports many livelihoods in the country, despite sector hurdles including fluctuating prices, a lack of investment, and low-quality inputs such as seeds and pesticides.

He mentioned some sector challenges affecting growth including failure of the regulatory bodies to defend investors when they get backlash from the public due to environmental concerns of establishing into wetlands, “yet they meet regulatory requirements. This is more likely to destroy investors’ morale if there is no sensitization and coordination with relevant”

One of the workers, Akello Monica from Teso said she has worked at this farm for the last 10 years and has no regrets because the company has enabled her to raise funds through their membership SACCO to help her ill mother back home in Soroti while at same time sending school fees to educate the little ones in the village.

The firm has provided employment opportunities in greenhouse farming, flower processing and packaging, logistics among others.

Rosebud Ltd started its operations in the year 2000, with a small area of 13 hectares under timber structure green houses. Today Rosebud Ltd is the largest cut rose’s exporter from Uganda and is fully established as modern flower farm. The farm is located at Namulanda Village, off Entebbe Road, Wakiso District in Uganda, East Africa. It is in the Lake Victoria basin which lies next to the equator.
