Renowned Orthopaedic Doctor John Ekure launches “We Can Be More” book with a call to transform lives.

Partners, and friends joined Dr. John Ekure the founder of Kumu Orthopedic hospital to launch a book titled “We can be more” challenging Ugandans to rise above thwir circumstances but focus on transforming their lives and the communities they live. 

The launch event that took place on Thursday Thursday, 26th March 2026, Nile Hall at Hotel Africana in Kampala attracted various companies and great Ugandans such as Prof. Fred Omaswa, s the Chief Guest, Chancellor Kumu University, The Deputy Secretary to the Treasury Mr. Patrick Ocailap, Executive Director National Environment Management Authority Dr. Akankwasa, Assistant IGP UPF and Head of Human Resources Dr. Moses Kadeero who was the key note speaker among other dignitaries.

“We Can Be More” is a book about the Courage to Grow, The Strength to Rise — a stirring call to transcend limitations, embrace purpose, and live with unwavering perseverance.

During the launch , Dr. John Ekure narrated hos journey for the series of boss since the first edition which he revealed that “My journey has been with challenges since the 1st book including the rough road to the orthopedic hospital. At one time survival came before ambition with big responsibility”

He said that the book is an invitation to Uganda’s to rise up and be change makers in the communities they live in.

“The book is an invitation to say that there is more we can do. We must rise and stop complaining about what we have lost, but it’s time to rise above your circumstances “he said.

The Deputy Secretary to the Treasury who went to the same school with Dr. Ekure in Kumi while commending the book’s author contributed to the cause of the Elizabeth Opola foundation by buying a table and books worth UGX 2 million.

“Me and my family will add to that table one more million to make 2 million” Ocailap said

One of the partners gave a tree to DST Patrick Ocailap as a symbol to preserve environment. 

In his Key note speech, AIGP Moses Kafeero reviewed the book while applauding Dr. John Ekure for the tremendous work which he said started with endorsements from reknowned dignitaries.

“This book “We can be more” starts with great endorsements by experienced people of high hierarchy in society as a motivation. The introduction starts with a story that encourages us to work with obligation diverse tasks and results orientation” he said.

Prof. Francis Omaswa who the chief guest said that in the book Dr. John “encourages us all to be better that who we are, giving readers an understanding to get out of the comfort zone and start a journey to achieve more that what you are today”

The proceeds from the dundrising will supports the vital work of the Elizabeth Opola Foundation, which empowers underprivileged youth in Uganda through education, scholarships, skills training, and mentorship.

In the “We Can Be More” book, it explores themes of discipline, courage, humility, and the power of consistent action, emphasizing that personal growth begins with taking the first step, even in imperfect circumstances.

We Can Be More challenges readers to move beyond survival and comfort into lives of deep purpose and lasting contribution. Drawing from personal stories, clinical insight, and hardearned wisdom, Dr. Ekure explores how passion must be matched with clarity, consistent action, humility in failure, and the courage to serve. True strength, he asserts, lies not in acclaim but in quiet, persistent impact on others.

Dr. John Ekure, widely known as “The Bone Doctor from Kumi,” rose from humble rural beginnings in Uganda to become one of East and Central Africa’s leading orthopaedic surgeons. He founded the Kumi Orthopaedic Centre in 2011—a specialized hospital dedicated to bone and joint care—in memory of his mother, Elizabeth Opola.

A passionate environmental advocate serving on the board of National Environment Management Authority, he is also the author of the acclaimed memoir Undeterred and the transformative call-to-action Changing Our World. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has praised him as “an entrepreneur with spectacles that see far — one who turned tragedy into triumph and rose to shape lives.”
