Relegation fighting Wakiso Giants host Maroons

Wakiso Giants must beat visiting Maroons to trim the gap between them and safety positions if they are to enhance survival chances.

The two sides lock horns at Kabaka Kyabaggu with the Purple Sharks third from bottom on 17 points, six points adrift of safety.

Steven Bengo’s men won their last outing 1-0 away to Mbale Heroes to end six months of no victory in the league and will want to build on that.

They did beat Maroons 3-2 in the reverse fixture at Luzira and the two sides also played to a goalless draw in the Stanbic Uganda Cup before Maroons eliminated Wakiso Giants on penalties.

However, the Purple Sharks have never completed a double over their day’s opponents with the Prison Warders winning on their last visit to Kabaka Kyabaggu last season.

The former league winners, on 33 points also have a chance to move into the top four which gives them an impetus to fight for all points.

Their last league game was a hard fought 1-0 win over Express at Luzira last weekend, a game decided by the last kick of the game thanks to Boris Onegi late winner.

Elsewhere on Wednesday, Soltilo Bright Stars, also in the fight to avoid the drop play away to URA at Hamz stadium, Nakivubo.
