KCCA edge Mbarara City to return to winning ways

KCCA FC snapped their three-winless run in the League on Saturday after overcoming Mbarara City FC at the MTN-Omondi Stadium.

Arafat Kizza Usama scored the lone goal to guide the Kasasiro Boys to victory.

Although, KCCA FC won their Uganda Cup quarterfinal game against Kaaro Karungi last weekend, they had lost three League games on the bounce.

The Lugogo based side lost 4-0 to Kitara FC three weeks ago, a result that led to the sacking of coach Abdallah Mubiru.

With Jackson Magera taking over in interim capacity, the start was not any better, losing 2-1 and 1-0 to BUL FC and URA FC respectively.

Therefore, today’s game was important for both the coach and the players as they seek to end what has been a poor season on a good note.

Additionally, KCCA FC hoped for revenge against the Ankole Lions who won the reverse fixture via boardroom.

KCCA FC fielded defender Gavin Kizito who had accumulated three yellow cards which is against the competition rules.

FUFA went award to award the points to Mbarara City. KCCA FC has won the game on pitch.

The decision then came with a long feud between FUFA and KCCA FC with the latter going all the way to Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) before eventually withdrawing the case.

The decisive goal today came in the 67th minute with Usama’s curling effort at the edge of the box going into the back of the net.

The goalkeepers for either side were busy on the day but KCCA FC eventually got the edge.

The result takes KCCA FC to 37 points in sixth place while Mbarara City FC remain 13th on the table with 23 points.
