Presidency Minister Babalanda emerge winner for Budiope West MP seat.
The Minister for Presidency Hon. Babirye Milly Babalanda has been declared as the winner of the Budiope West Member of Parliament (MP) seat.
She was officially declared the winner on January 16, 2026, under the ruling party of National Resistance Movement (NRM) as part of the nationwide parliamentary election results.
In her path to the General Election, Hon. Babalanda secured the NRM party flag through a landslide victory in the July 2025 NRM primaries, where she garnered 99,832 votes (80.2%).
Despite initial challenges to these results by her rivals, the NRM Election Disputes Tribunal upheld her victory in August 2025.
The Minister for the Presidency, defended her victory in the Budiope West Constituency primaries before the NRM Election Disputes Tribunal against rival, Denis Mutagaya who challenged Babalanda’s declaration as the official NRM flag bearer.
In response, Babalanda’s legal team argued that the petition was filed outside the time limits set by the party’s electoral guidelines, making it legally incompetent and she emerged as the clear winner in the primary elections held on 17th July 2025.
She polled over 91,000 votes across all sub-counties, with the petitioner disputing only the outcome from Buyende Town Council, where approximately 6,000 votes were cast.
