Prasidh Krishna Ruled Out of Decisive 3rd ODI: Khelosuper

India have taken a fitness setback in the wake of the record chasing victory in Guwahati in preparation for the third and final ODI against West Indies, as spinner Prasidh Krishna suffered a niggle during the match. Although the match has now been rendered dead rubber, the injury does not bode well for the Indian attack as the rest of the series is still to be played out with the win in hand, India is 2-0.

Prasidh Krishna Ruled Out With a Niggle

On October 1, Sports Tak journalist Nitin Srivastav broke the news that Krishna was ruled out of the third ODI with a niggle he picked up during the second ODI. According to a separate report on Cricbuzz, the problem was due to a hamstring injury, but the nature of the problem is yet to be confirmed by the BCCI officially.

Could Only Bowl Five Overs in Guwahati

The second ODI was the ODI which wasn't completed because Krishna felt discomfort and was unable to take the full 10 overs and ended up with a 1 for 45 record as West Indies reached their first 400-plus ODI score. India batsman Krishna was being monitored and more evaluation and scans are to be carried out, confirmed batting coach Sitanshu Kotak after the match, a concern raised by the fans who followed the series on Khelosuper threads.

Siraj the Likely Replacement

With Krishna unavailable, fellow Gujarat Titans pacer Mohammed Siraj is the frontrunner to come into the XI for the final match, giving India a like-for-like swap at the top of the bowling attack.

A Record Chase Overshadowed the Injury News

The bigger story from Guwahati was India's response to that 405-run target, which they chased down in 43.3 overs with eight wickets in hand to complete their highest successful run chase in ODI history and seal the series 2-0 with a game still to play. The result meant Krishna's fitness scare barely registered on the day itself, with the batting effort dominating the headlines instead.

Shubman Gill's side has now won the first two matches comfortably, and the series victory gives the team management the freedom to experiment with their bowling combinations in the dead rubber, exactly the kind of low-pressure opportunity a fast bowler recovering from a niggle would otherwise not get.

Krishna's Numbers This Series

Across the series so far, Krishna's returns include:

  • 30 ODIs played in his career, with 53 wickets at an average of 27.09 and an economy of 5.97.

  • 2 for 60 in the first ODI, picking up Keacy Carty and Roston Chase.

  • 1 for 45 from an incomplete spell in the second ODI, unable to finish his ten overs.

What This Means for the Series Finale

With the series already decided, Saturday's match in New Chandigarh is effectively a dead rubber, giving India room to manage workloads and give fringe bowlers like Siraj a run out without affecting the overall result. It also gives the team management a useful look at bowling depth heading into a packed international calendar. For fans of competitive platforms like Khelosuper who track squad changes and injury updates as closely as the scorecards, Krishna's fitness will now be one to watch going into India's next assignment, with the series already safely in the bag.
