Perfect Vipers expect tough Villa challenge – Muhumuzza

Vipers’ perfect start to the second-round faces SC Villa litmus at Mutesa II stadium, Wankulukuku on Saturday.

The Venoms, along with BUL are yet to drop points in the second round and head into the game top of the standings with 49 points, two ahead of NEC who have played one more game.

Speaking to the media, co-coach Fred Muhumuzza highlighted the importance of the game to the Venoms revealing the teams wants to build on previous results but expects a tight challenge.

“It is another thrilling encounter against the champions,” he told reporters.

“We expect a very tight game but we hope to build on the result we got against Wakiso Giants and Blacks Power in the Uganda Cup,” added Muhumuzza.

The visitors will miss the services of Karim Watambala through suspension and skipper Milton Karisa who is a game or two away from return but January acquisition Isaac Ogwang is available again after missing the last couple of games through injury.

Allan Okello, Yunus Sentamu and youngster Kenneth Kimera who got his first league goal in the last outing will be mainly tasked to unlock the Villa defence.

Meanwhile, things haven’t been rosy at the defending champions and they are 9^th with only 27 points at this stage.

They lost their last home game, 2-1 versus Maroons which ended their unbeaten home run so far and will be desperate to make amends especially after collecting their first points away from home.

In Patrick Kakande, Sula Matovu, Elvis Ngonde, Charles Lwanga and captain Ronald Ssekiganda, Villa has the ammunition to stop the Venoms and blow the title race open with NEC on the leaders’ neck.

• Vipers are winless away to SC Villa since a 3-1 victory in 2021 through goals from Paul Mucureezi, Bobosi Byaruhanga and Yunus Sentamu.

Elsewhere, BUL face Mbarara City test at Kakyeeka while faltering Mbale Heroes are away to URA in a late kick off at Nakivubo.
