PELUM Uganda, partners kickoff agroecology week activities to mark 30 years in sustainable food systems in Uganda.

From Monday 27th through 31st October 2025, as part of activities to mark 30 years, Participatory Ecology Land Use Management (PELUM) Uganda in collaboration with Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Indurstry and Fisheries together with various agroecology actors have announced a week long series of activities to create a platform for awareness, scaling up and scale deep issues in agroecology while showcasing achievements, lessons and the way forward. 

During a press conference held on Monday 27th October 2025 at hotel Africana, The Chairman Board of Directors PELUM Dr. Kyeswa Christopher who is also the Executive Director of Africa 2000 Network a PELUM member said that the agroecology week of action will be an inclusive platform to champion community led approached, show case achievements, discuss lessions among others in advancing agroecology and sustainable land use management practices among farming communities, policy makes and other actors.

“This week that is dedicated to to the promotion and agroecology will serve as a vital mobilisation and constituency buildi6ground to persuade more actors to embrace the agroecology path, demonstratung the interconnected nature of the food system” she said.

The week has been organized under the theme: Championing Agroecology innovations and approaches for sustainable food systems”

The Country Coordinate PELUM Josephine Akia Kuyimbazi said that as PELUM marks 30 years, the week long activities will dominate exhibitions of the work done by the more than 75 member of PELUM and the community in agroecology, interventions in farmer management systems, the policy engagement work among others.

Mr. Moses Onen Program Manager at PELUM who spoke about the 7th Annual National Agroecology Actors’ symposium (NAAS) said that it will be held in Tuesday 28th October 2025 at Hotel Africana under theme “Accelerating agroecology transitions for sustainabikty: reshaping policy, markets, finance, and practice for transformation change”

“From the national agroecology committeechaired at MAAIF the basis for the NAAS is to provide a platform for policy aspects dialogue, to scale up and scale deep agroecology in Uganda and actors contribution to the national agenda” he said

The other activities during this week will include: the 4th Agroecology market system expo (AMASE) in 29th October 2025, The Indigenous and Traditional food and seed fair in 30th to 31st October 2025, crowned by 30th anniversary celebrations including the award ceremony.

The 30th celebration is expected to attract over 1500 participants ranging from small scale farmer organisations, producer organisations, Indigenous people, traditional knowledge holders, private sector, government, CSOs , Development partners among others.
