                                James, a 38-year-old man from Kisumu, had always dreamed of a marriage built on love, respect, and understanding. “At first, I thought everything was fine,” James recalls. “But it didn’t take long before she kept reminding me of my financial status. She would say things like, ‘As long as you are poor, you will cook for me and wash my underwears.’ I felt humiliated, worthless, and trapped. It was shocking that someone I loved could speak to me in that way.”
