President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has today presided over the pass-out ceremony of 2018 recruit warders and wardresses of Uganda Prison Services at Kololo airstrip.

These include 1,464 warders and 554 wardresses that have been undergoing training at Kitalya Prisons Training camp with the course that started on 5th April 2021 and components included Parade training, Introduction to Law, Human Rights, Self Defence, Political Education, Physical Training, Kiswahili lessons, introduction to Uganda prison services.

 The Warders and wardresses who underwent seven months of training were selected across all districts of the country and the basic course is to prepare officers for a more challenging and enduring work ahead of them.

Speaking at the ceremony,  the Commissioner-General of Prisons, Dr Johnson Byabashaija pictured above advised the graduates to stick to the core values of the Uganda Prisons Services or else the law will take its course.

President Yoweri Museveni congratulated the Ministry of Internal and the Commissioner General on re-enforcing the prison forces with more manpower.

”Uganda Prisons Service and Police Force should begin-up construction of their own prisons facilities to reduce exploitation tendencies by foreign construction companies to increase on required facilities at low cost ” President Museveni said.

 The President added that, ”The qualified staff in the forces should be given priority to exhibit their skills like engineers instead of trusting projects with foreign companies”.

The pass-out was attended by Chief Justice Owiny Dollo, Director General Internal Security Organization Col Charles Oluka, Ministers, and officers from Uganda Police Force, UPDF, and Uganda Prison Service.

 According to Uganda Prisons Services sources, the main aim of the training is to produce officers who appreciate the culture of the prison service and values, security of offenders, issues of professionalization, and respect human rights.

Best trainee recruit warder Aliong Machel Jude was awarded as outstanding in leadership and 19731 warder Fred Wolenga as best male academically and overall, female category wardress Kyomutai Lomai and they later took a photo with the president.

 According to Uganda Prisons Services records, the training started with 2084 recruits last year and 57 fallout due to different indiscipline grounds and1⅞ health-related issues that prompted them to be dismissed.
