Inaugural ESG Conference & Expo Set to Drive Uganda’s Transition from Commitment to Action

KAMPALA, UGANDA — The Ministry of Water and Environment, in partnership with Envirosure Consulting and various development partners, has announced the upcoming inaugural Environment and Social Governance (ESG) Conference and Expo. Scheduled for 25th September 2026, the landmark event will gather key stakeholders—including government officials, private sector leaders, and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs)—to address compliance with global sustainability frameworks.

Under the theme “Driving transformation through ESG from commitment to action,” the conference comes at a critical juncture as global and domestic regulatory landscapes shift toward stricter accountability.

Speaking on the readiness for the event, Mr. Fredrick Musiimenta, Managing Partner of Envirosure Consulting, emphasized the urgency for structural readiness across all sectors.

“As government moves beyond voluntary sustainability towards mandatory disclosure regimes, the need for technical and strategic foresight has never been greater,” Mr. Musimenta noted. “It is during this conference that stakeholders will discuss what must be done by everyone to match international standards, keeping the core pillars of ESG at the center of operations.”

The conference agenda will sharply focus on pressing environmental and corporate challenges, specifically addressing waste management, carbon emissions reduction, and climate change adaptation.

Highlighting the strategic importance of the collaboration, Onbehalf of Minsiter Kahinda Otafire, Dr. Callist Tindimugaga, Commissioner for the Water Resources Planning & Regulation Department at the Ministry of Water and Environment, expressed optimism about the growing domestic adoption of sustainable practices.

“ESG principles are now becoming defining pillars of economic transformation,” Dr. Tindimugaga stated. “Globally, ESG is reshaping how institutions attract investment, manage risk, and deliver long-term value. We are happy to report that the population and corporate entities are increasingly embracing ESG as a cornerstone of our economic future.”

Uganda is firmly embracing this transformation, through the National Development Plan (NDP IV) and Vision 2040, 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Agenda 21, Africa Agenda 2063, Water Action Decade, global agenda for environment conservation, National Climate Change Act, Uganda's Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), the Green Growth Development Strategy and a range of sectoral policies/ frameworks. The event will provides an interface between different sector actors and other stakeholders to exchange knowledge and information on Environmental, Social and Governance pillars in general and across various sectors of the economy"

The joint press statement concluded by affirming that the conference will serve as an essential platform for exchanging views, sharing best practices, and charting a collaborative enforcement framework for ESG compliance in Uganda.
