“How I Won an Election Despite Being Unpopular in My Community”

Politics is never an easy path. For many years, I watched other men in my village rise to leadership positions while I remained largely unnoticed. My name is Ronald, and I come from Mbale, Uganda. From a young age, I dreamed of holding a political office where I could make a meaningful difference in my community. But the truth is, I was not very popular. People barely knew me, and even those who did often overlooked me. Still, deep inside, I believed I had something to offer, and I could not let my dreams fade.

When the last election season approached, I felt conflicted. Should I run, or should I stay away to avoid embarrassment? Many friends told me it would be a waste of time. They reminded me that politics requires money, influence, and strong public support—things I lacked. Yet, my inner voice kept urging me to try. I searched for solutions everywhere—reading books on leadership, attending small community gatherings, and seeking advice from church elders.
