Hundreds of goals were scored on the opening day of the netball for the 2024 UMEA Solidarity Games in Masaka city.

Usual suspects Ngando SS, Kibuli SS, Madinah Islamic SS and Kawanda SS commenced with outstanding victories on Good Friday, 29th March 2024 during day one action.

Ngando SS defeated Kawempe Muslim and Nankabirwa Memorial 26-18 and 25-14 respectively in group A.

The other group A contests witnessed Kadugala SS edge Bulo Parents 21-18. Kawempe Muslim had two stalemates with Nankabirwa Memorial (18-18) and Kadugala SS (22-22).

In group B, Madinah Islamic smiled past Kakungulu High 25-22. Madinah Islamic also defeated Namagabi 27-21. Namagabi and Kakungulu Memorial shared the spoils 27 goals apiece.

Hosts Masaka SS beat Kakungulu Memorial 18-14 and feel to Kakungulu High 23-26.

In group C, Kibuli SS overcame Amity SS 22-13 and also condemned Kisaana SS 36-12.

Amity SS recovered to defeat Kinaawa Mugongo 19-11. Kinaawa Mugongo also fell 14-26 to Kasawo Secondary School.

Group D action witnessed Kawanda SS smile past Greenlight Islamic 17-15. Kawanda SS also humiliated Wamatovu Muslim 33-09 as Gombe SS toppled Busiika Muslim 25-20 and Greenlight also out-muscled Busiika Muslima 21-17.

Netball group stage matches will continue on Holy Saturday, 30th March 2024 with the knock-outs expected on Easter Sunday before the grand finale on Easter Monday.

Besides netball, schools are also competing in football (boys and girls), volleyball (boys and girls), handball (boys and girls), table tennis (boys and girls) as well as badminton (boys and girls).

The UMEA solidarity games involve schools whose founding pillars are hinged on the islamic faith.
