From Struggles to Success!! How I Turned Retakes into Graduation Glory

My name is Emmanuel Katende, and I hail from Mbale, a vibrant town nestled in eastern Uganda, known for its scenic hills, kind-hearted people, and strong emphasis on education. I was brought up by a single mother who gave up everything to ensure I went to school. From childhood, I had a single dream—to excel in school, achieve success, and uplift my family. But life often teaches us through hardship, and my university journey was far different from what I had imagined.
When I entered Makerere University, I was full of enthusiasm and dreams. I enrolled in a Bachelor of Science in Public Health. Initially, things went smoothly, but by the second semester, everything began to unravel. I started receiving surprising retakes in subjects I was confident I had passed. I failed “Research Methods” three times. Then came “Biostatistics” and “Epidemiology.” Semester after semester, I kept sitting for supplementary exams.
