Ugandan international Travis Mutyaba has completed a move to French side FC Girondins de Bordeaux.
Mutyaba joins the club as a free agent after terminating his contract with Egyptian giants Zamalek just months after joining the club.
The diminutive skillful forward has reportedly signed a three-year contract until 2027 at the six-time French champions but here is what you need to know about the club.
Founded:
The club was founded 104 years ago in 1920 when they officially joined association football.
Home:
They host their matches at the 42,115-capacity seater stadium called Matmut Atlantique.
Honors/Trophies:
They have won the French Ligue 1 title on six occasions in 1949/50, 1983/84, 1984/85, 1986/87, 1998/99 & 2008/09.
They also won the Ligue 2 title once in 1991/92
They are four times Coupe de France (France FA Cup) – 1940/41, 1985/86, 1986/87 & 2012/13
Internationally, they won the UEFA Intertoto Cup in 1995.
Current Status
Earlier in the summer, Bordeaux filed for bankruptcy and dropped their pro team status just days after they were relegated to the third tier of French football. They were axed from Ligue 2 by the National Directorate of Management Control due to financial concerns, but have since fallen further.
As such they had to release all of their players and looked to make new signings to help them begin their comeback.
The club said in a statement: “It’s a difficult decision that anticipates an inevitable consequence of the restructuring process underway.”
The club has abandoned their professional status they have held since 1937 and closed their renowned training academy.
Former prominent players
Iconic Zinedine Zidane is the biggest name to have played at the club among others including Alain Giresse, Marouane Chamakh, Jean Tigana, Christophe Dugarry, Gernot Rohr and they also won their latest French Ligue 1 title in 2009 under ex-Manchester United defender Laurent Blanc.
