Arsenal news and transfers live: Deal announced, £20m fee agreed, Aouar decision, medical completed

The Gunners have had a busy summer rebuild under Mikel Arteta and Edu, but more work could yet be done before the window closes tonight at 11pm.

Arsenal have signed five new players, coughing up more than £130million in the process, as Arteta has one eye on the future. Nuno Tavares, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Ben White, Aaron Ramsdale and Martin Odegaard have all joined the club.

Fans still want to see more incomings, however, with a right-back the key and also a striker and more creative options also having been heavily linked.

There are also likely to be outgoings, as well, with the only major departure garnering a fee being Joe Willock's move to Premier League rivals Newcastle United.

We will have all the updates throughout a busy day, so stick with the blog below.

Maitland-Niles' best role

Jamie Carragher shared thoughts on what's going on with Ainsley Maitland-Niles and outlined the five-time capped England international's best role in the Arsenal side.

I feel a little bit for him as all he wants to do is to play football. It looks like there’s no real future for him at Arsenal.

At the last minute, they’re blocking a move to Everton from what I can gather.

I read something this morning which said that he isn’t going to be training with the first-team now, maybe that was a punishment for the Instagram post.

But, sometimes players just want to go and play football. I don’t think he’s causing too much of a problem at Arsenal and they don’t want to use him.

They were using different players at full-back, I think they were using Cedric and Calum Chambers there.

Maitland-Niles can fill that position, whether he’s good enough for Arsenal; who knows, but if they want to use him then play him and if they don’t, let the lad go and play some football.

Stan Kroenke's biggest problem

The myth that Arsenal's American owner does not spend has been dispelled this summer with several deals completed and over £130m spent.

However, the profile of signings shows how far off the elite club has fallen.

Whilst the Gunners have bolstered their squad with Nuno Tavares, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Ben White, Martin Odegaard and Aaron Ramsdale, the question is have they improved enough from last season?

Lineker is happy

Upon hearing of Mikel Arteta's U-turn regarding Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Gary Lineker is a happy man.

No bids for Elneny

There has been talk of interest in Mohamed Elneny from Turkey.

However, that is not the case at this point.

Although, things could change as the transfer window in Turkey remains open for another week.

Maitland-Niles decision

Ainsley Maitland-Niles will be part of Mikel Arteta's plans this season.

It seemed the 24-year-old was set to be frozen out at Arsenal after his social media post on Monday, but following clear the air talks with the Spaniard today, all appears well.

What do you think of the Ainsley Maitland-Niles situation?

Tomiyasu medical completed

Arsenal are just an announcement away from confirming their sixth signing of the summer transfer window.

Nelson verdict

Reiss Nelson has delivered his verdict on joining Feyenoord on loan.

I'm looking forward to playing in this beautiful stadium. Feyenoord is a wonderful club and a great challenge for me.

I hope I can get the fans cheering soon.

Done deal

Arsenal's first deal on deadline day comes in the form of Reiss Nelson sealing a season-long loan move to Feyenoord.

Best of luck, Reiss.

Tomiyasu shirt number theory

What squad number could Takehiro Tomiyasu take after joining Arsenal?

Well, it would appear that his favoured option is no.14 having worn it at Bologna for the past three seasons for Japan at this summer's Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Howeber, at Arsenal, the incumbent No.14 is none other than captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Alternatively, Tomiyasu could take the No.2 shirt, which is widely regarded as the perfect squad number for a right-back.

That shirt number is expected to become vacant at some point today as football.london understands Hector Bellerin will join La Liga outfit Real Betis on loan for the 2021/22 season.

Four deals to be completed

In terms of incomings, £131million has been spent on Nuno Tavares, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Ben White, Martin Odegaard and Aaron Ramsdale.

Whilst all signs are pointing towards another deal being completed very soon.

But what's in store for the Gunners between now and the deadline?

"I think Willian did the right thing, he went for the project and the project wasn’t there,” Joorabchian told Talksport.

"Unfortunately, I’d have to say, which player has moved to Arsenal that has not been a disaster in the last couple of years? That one I speak as a fan.

“I don’t think this is about Willian. I think something has gone wrong [at Arsenal] and this is just one piece of the puzzle.

“Nobody blames [Mikel] Arteta, we all want Arteta to do well. Even as fans, they might be disgruntled at the moment but they want the best for the football club. Willian wants all the success for Arteta and this Arsenal team.”

"I hope with my actions today explain to those people and they now understand that was not the case. I hope it teaches some people that they should not be so quick to pass judgement and creat(e) bad environments to make themselves important even though I accept that’s part of the game."
