7th Edition of Kampala Geopolitics Conference opens in Kampala

A two day high level Kampala Geopolitics conference 2024 has officially opened at Makerere University with call on stakeholders and experts to discuss current geopolitical questions and trends that negatively impact on their communities and societies.
The conference is convened in partnership with the Embassy of France, the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung [KAS], Makerere University and Alliance de Francaise Kampala respectively and has attracted over 600 distinguished participants.
The topics to be discussed conclude among others ‘armed conflicts and peace building, what is the scope for reconciliation’, ‘Climate change and environmental sustainability, balancing global environmental policy commitments and Africa’s socio-economic development needs.
Others are a -+bloody stalemate, what lies ahead for Sudan amidst a myriad of failed interventions, Jihadism, global Networks and the African state, The cases of Somalia, Nigeria and Mali.
With Oil’s impact on Uganda’s future; Blessing or curse and Navigating new and old Alliances, Africa’s evolving economic partnerships with emerging powers and traditional Allies respectively.
The experts from Uganda have been joined by thought leaders and policy experts across the world to engage in participatory debates on the above listed topics.

The Makerere University vice chancellor Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe in his opening remarks urged participants to prioritize addressing issues of national and global significance such as governance, democracy, food security and gainful employment as they are critical in the stability of their immediate societies and communities.
The French Ambassador to Uganda HE. Xavier Sticker said such engagements help bid strong collaborations which can be used as a vehicle to settle any outstanding challenges adding that bhis government was committed to working with all stakeholders in building strong cordial relationships in addressing and finding solutions to existing challenges.
