“We Used To Be The Poorest Family In Our Village, Going Days Without Food, But One Decision Changed Everything,” Rose Shares

My name is Rose, and I’m from Mbale, Uganda. For many years, my family was known as the poorest in our village. We lived in a small grass-thatched house, and each day felt like a battle. There were times we went two or three days without food, surviving only on water or whatever small portions a kind neighbor would share with us. Watching my children fall asleep with empty stomachs broke my heart every night.
Life felt unbearable, as if poverty was a curse that followed us wherever we went. I tried starting small businesses, selling vegetables and second-hand clothes, but nothing ever succeeded. Whatever I touched seemed to fall apart before it could grow. People in the village mocked us, saying we were doomed to stay poor forever.
