KAMPALA, UGANDA — On 19th October 2026 Victoria University officially celebrated its 10th graduation ceremony at the Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala, graduating over 2,600 students in different disciplines.

Presided over by University leadership, the milestone event underscored the institution’s rapid trajectory—having grown its student population from 180 in 2020 to 16,000 today, with annual graduating cohorts expanding from 48 graduates in 2021 to 2,600 this year.

Pro. Lawrence Muganga

Delivering his address, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Lawrence Muganga urged the Ugandan government to urgently implement a nationwide “One Laptop Per Child” policy. He proposed extending digital tools to every learner from Primary Five through university, as well as those in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions, warning that Uganda risks falling behind in the global Artificial Intelligence (AI) revolution.

“Uganda is our ship. Africa is our ship. It has struck an iceberg. And the iceberg has a name. Artificial Intelligence,” Dr. Muganga remarked, emphasizing that adapting to technological change is no longer optional.

To bridge infrastructure gaps in off-grid or underserved regions, Dr. Muganga advocated for solar-powered laptops and satellite internet connections. He linked this digital transformation directly to national development, noting that achieving Uganda’s Tenfold Growth Strategy target of a $500 billion economy by 2040 requires an intensely skilled, digitally equipped population.

He further announced that every academic program at Victoria University is now AI-driven, and revealed plans to break ground on a new campus in Naguru featuring a specialized teaching hospital starting January 2027.

Echoing the call for academic evolution, University Chancellor Prof. John Opuda-Asibo urged higher education institutions across the country to continuously reform their curricula.

Prof. Opuda emphasized embedding AI across all disciplines—from statistics and actuarial science to public health, agriculture, and climate computation—while teaching students to critically evaluate the ethical boundaries and limitations of technology.

Addressing the class of 2026, Prof. Opuda challenged the new graduates to guard their knowledge, question assumptions responsibly, and use their critical-thinking skills to drive positive change beyond the classroom.

Founded as a forward-thinking hub for higher education, Victoria University has emerged as one of Uganda's fastest-growing private universities. Driven by a mission to democratize access to equitable, technology-driven education, the institution has scaled its student enrollment from a baseline of 180 learners in 2020 to a diverse body of 16,000 students today. This rapid trajectory is reflected in its graduating classes, which grew from 48 students in 2021 to 2,600 in 2026.

Victoria University differentiates itself through an employment-oriented curriculum where every academic program is fundamentally driven by Artificial Intelligence (AI). By embedding digital workflows, critical thinking, and advanced analytics into traditional disciplines, the university ensures its graduates possess the hard and soft skills required to survive and compete within the modern global labor market.

Looking forward, Victoria University is heavily investing in physical infrastructure and human capital to support Uganda's national economic goals. In January 2027, construction begins on a sprawling new campus in Naguru, Kampala. This state-of-the-art facility will feature an advanced teaching hospital designed to host the university's new medical school, cementing its commitment to pioneering research, technical education, and sustainable community healthcare solutions.
