UMTA hailed for championing teacher education professionalsm

Education : The government has appreciated the great work being done by the Uganda Muslim teachers Association [UMTA] in the provision of holistic and quality education to the children of Uganda saying other professional bodies should emulate them.
The call has been made by the permanent secretary ministry of education and sports Dr.Kedrace Turyagyenda who says the leadership of [UMTA] is instrumental in strengthening implementation of the government teacher education policy and strategies that has added value to the profession.
She made the remarks 8th May 2026 while officiating at the opening ceremony of the two day 34th annual UMTA convention
and general assembly being hosted by Kawempe Muslim secondary school.
The high level engagement has brought together over 1,000 education policy experts, Senior education ministry officials, headteachers, sponsors and teachers among others to review the progress of performance and device means to address the prevailing bottlenecks .
The 2026 convention theme is 'Inspiring Actions Enhancing Visibility, Transforming Muslim Education 'which brought together
Turyagyenda said the Muslim teachers have been a qualitative force of transformation of the teaching profession in the country as their mandate to teach, guide and empower the learners with necessary skills and knowledge can not be challenged and underestimated.
Teachers are a symbol of quality
leadership, symbol of good who aim at excellence therefore must give children quality and holistic Education cabablof positioning the learners to become useful citizens who add value to the development agenda of their community and country at large.
Teachers must be accountable to God for the wisdom accountable to the children, parents and government which provides the conducive environment for the entire value chain to progress.
She commended the secretary General of the Uganda Muslim education Association [UMEA] hajji Abubakar Kakembo popularly known as the chief education officer [CEO] for being an outstanding dedicated senior educationalist responsible for steering the smooth implementation of all the government policy decisions across board because his wisdom soundly
enriched the prevailing policy environment shaping the future education direction of the country.
She pledged government commitment to work closely with both UMTA and UMEA to strengthen the policy direction of the country through encouraging their members to seek professional upgrade with the strategic aim of deploying them in positions of responsibility at national level.
Kakembo in his remarks thanked the permanent secretary for being a strategic leader who continues to support the shaping of national teachers policy particularly appreciating the policy contributions by the Muslim teachers fraternity perspective.
We appreciate your resilience as a strong leader who continues to listen to the policy views from the Muslim teachers
among them deployments of Muslim teachers into key positions of responsibility across board.
The UMTA president hajji Mpungu Musa Musoke thanked the government for the existing cordial relationship of working with his Association saying they are determined to ensure that the children who are their professional clients are given an all round quality education package capable enriching their future education journey.
He commended all the stakeholders that contributed to the successful activities of the Association and pledged to furthermore strengthen the systems meant to provision of high quality education to the citizens of Uganda.
